Building the Future of Northern Connectivity

KatloTech Fiber is building a high capacity broadband corridor to support competition, resilience, fair wholesale access, and future digital growth across Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

Katlotech fiber network

Fiber Optic Network Solution

An Indigenous-led, 329 km open-access fiber corridor linking High Level, AB to K'atlodeeche First Nation (Hay River, NT). Built for wholesale dark/lit capacity, carrier-grade reliability, and data-center interconnect across the Northwest Territories.

Route & Reach

329 km backbone with open-access handoffs at High Level and KFN/Hay River, expansion-ready toward regional networks and Arctic routes. (In Development)

Capacity & Technology

288-strand single-mode fiber, DWDM-ready (10G/100G/400G). Ciena optical transport and Nokia routing with protected path options and real-time monitoring.

Service Options

Dark fiber IRUs/leases, lit wavelengths, cross-connects at the IceFox campus, and maintenance SLAs tailored to carrier and enterprise needs.

Who We Serve

Carriers, ISPs, mobile operators, Indigenous and public-sector networks, and enterprises needing resilient north–south backhaul and data-center interconnect.

Fiber Optic Network Backbone

Northern Canada currently relies on limited long-haul routes controlled by a small number of incumbents, with few true open-access options. KatloTech Fiber changes this by delivering an Indigenous-led, open-access corridor that:
  • Introduces real wholesale competition on a critical north–south route
  • Provides redundancy and protected paths for carriers, ISPs, and mobile operators
  • Connects directly to IceFox, a sovereign, hydro-powered data center campus on Treaty 8 land
  • 100% underground construction with trenching and HDD to reduce wildfire and weather risk
Our Indigenous ownership, built on Canadian Soil, and focus on open-access wholesale capacity give us a distinct advantage over traditional carriers and single-tenant private networks.

Northern Alberta & NWT Interconnection

KatloTech’ s Phase 1 plan is a 329 km open-access fiber optic backbone linking High Level, Alberta to KFN/Hay River, Northwest Territories, creating a new interconnection route for both civilian and mission-critical communications. Designed to support government, enterprise, carriers, public safety, and defense-related connectivity needs, the network improves redundancy, secure transport, and long-term regional resilience while establishing the foundation for future northern expansion and interconnection.
